I love a good Christmas story. There are so many great options, but I search for a new on each year just to feel extra Chrismtas-y. And this year Max Lucado put out a great option - The Christmas Candle.
I was excited to check it out and Lucado often writes moving pieces.
This particular story took you back in time to a period where life was simpler. In this town life is a routine with no real surprises, of course this year there is a Christmas surprise for the people of this town.
Just as you would hope, Lucado has filled this story with special characters and moving words.
But for me, this story was rushed. It was obvious that this book was to accompany the movie that came out this year. The book had many little details that were not up to Lucado's standard of writing. The overall feel felt like a book that was written as an after thought to the movie, as many of Lucado's fans are readers.
Reading List Rating:
Don't get me wrong, there are some great moments in this book simply because the power of Christmas is woven in to the story. However, I have a feeling the movie was better than the book.
Did you come across a wonderful Christmas book this year? I'd love to hear from you!
