Joseph Wants to Read
Maybe it's because I always have to put a book in my bag before we go somewhere, or because I find moments during the day to sneak in a chapter from a book while my kids play in the same room, maybe it's because I make sure my kids get to the local library every week, but for whatever reason, my kids do seem to genuinely interested in reading.
Both of my boys know exactly where the books they are allowed to look at on their own are kept. It never fails that they will find a book to peruse at least once a day. That is on top of the books my husband and I make sure to read to them daily.
So it is no surprise that when we discovered this book, Joseph Wants to Read, my oldest was incredibly interested.
You see Joseph is a monkey who doesn't want to leave on summer break because he desperately wants to learn to read. The teacher gives the students the tools for a summer game that will provide a solid foundation for Joseph to be a good reader when school starts. What foundation you might ask? Well Joseph spends the summer learning the sounds the letters of the alphabet make, which of course is needed for reading.
This was the perfect tie in for my oldest who is working every day to learn what letter starts different words, both the sound and "shape".
This is a fun book, with fun animals learning to read. It's a great tool for helping your kid as he prepares for a new school year. I found it encouraging as a mom, because the teacher is able to teach her students in a way that they find fun even during the summer.
