Life-Changing Stories from the Bible for Women Today
Looking for a great group study for the summer? Ladies this is it. I did this study last summer and have gained so much from the 6 week study that I recommend it to everyone.
The book and DVD will open your heart to the women of the Old Testament in a way you never expected.
I was very unsure of attending this study because I thought it would be boring and unrelateable, I couldn't have been more wrong.
With the help of six modern Christian women (Jeanne Stevens, Naomi Zacharias and more) you learn the hearts of six Old Testament women: Rebekah, Abigail, Hannah, Eve, Gomer and Leah. You learn how their stories are in the Bible for very important reasons and we have much to gain from their stories. Each lesson has great personal questions to answer before discussion with your group and then there are amazing group discussion questions.
Personally Abigail held the most for me. Her generous spirit and loving nature helped her to approach a conflict and resolve it. The biggest point was, for me personally, that Abigail did not have God's word written down to gain strength from. Also this was before Jesus had given the Holy Spirit to live within those that believe. I can hardly imagine the strength, and courage, Abigail had to stand before David in hopes of saving Nabal without going to read a Psalm from her Bible first, or even feeling the power of the Spirit renew her.
That being said, each story held tons of information I needed. It was great to hear the history surrounding each woman's story, as many of the speakers on the DVD mentioned some historical facts. It helped to make each woman real and therefore understand why she is in the Bible.
If you decide to give this study a try, I suggest doing the "Talk About It" questions as homework beforehand in order to have something to talk about. Give yourself time for discussion, as the guide does a great job of leading you to share with your group. The videos themselves are short but powerful. There is also places for journaling your thoughts between sessions - a great way to keep your heart on the Word that these women share.
