Sun Summoners, Darklings, and Current Reads - WAYRW
I cannot believe April is almost gone... I have disappeared from the internet world it seems because life has gotten so busy... but I'm planning on being back full swing now.
You see, I have hit a bit of a reading rut. No new story is truly grasping my attention... which happens, I mean I read around 10 books a month, and well there are only so many stories to be told - I believe Shakespeare said something about that...
But I'm not giving up, and I will push through... and in the meantime, I'll write a bit more...
Which means I'll be adding some new freebies to the mailing list soon, and sending out newsletters again... have you joined our newsletter? It's not very regular... maybe twice a month, but I fill it with goods and freebies and coupon codes... so maybe leave your email in the sign-up form at the top of the page, and join in. Of course, you can cancel anytime, and I never sell your info or give it away, I always make sure it's kept with safe and up-to-date mailing services.
Anyway, today I'm sharing a super popular book, and I'm reading it super slowly because like I said, I'm in reading rut...
Where This Idea Came From...
The idea is that each week all of us book bloggers can write a post where we talk about the book or books we are reading for the week - and yes if you are still reading the same book for a few weeks in a row that is totally fine. Just be sure to include the answers to the five questions for What are you reading Wednesday in your post. Then hop over to one of the host sites and share your link!Of course, this will be even more fun if you leave the host a comment, and then jump around to another post or two, or five, and gush with them!
We cannot wait to see what you are reading.
What Are You Reading Wednesday - the nitty-gritty
Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover... and then answer these questions for at least one of them.
- Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
- Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
- Will you finish this one?
- Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
- What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
Marissa's Current Reads
- Sorority by Genevieve Sly Crane
- An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
- The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
- And I Darken by Kiersten White
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.
Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.
Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
Purely recommendations - the cover is interesting enough, and the synopsis is interesting, but mostly everyone gushes over the characters, so I figured I would find out more...
Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
I'm really not that far... Alina is interesting enough, if not exactly what I expect from a YA heroine... I'm curious about Mal, I feel like there is more there, even if he has disappeared from the storyline at the moment... the Darkling, who everyone raves over just seems to be there to advance the plot so far... clearly, I will need to read more.
Will you finish this one?
Yeah, eventually... I can't believe I've been slowly reading this book for three weeks already... I'm so stuck in a rut...
Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
Six of Crows... shocker! And most fantasy YA books right now... so Red Queen, Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Throne of Glass...
What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
It's fine... I'm not hooked, but nothing is hooking me right now...

So... clearly, I'm just struggling with books and reading right now...
Two small questions... if you have read this series, will you leave me a reason to push through this specific book? Maybe a miny hook, or spoiler to entice me?
And if you have a book that pulled you out of a reading slump or rut, what was it???

***Oh and a small note about the link up - please leave a bookish link. I would love to hear about what you are currently reading. If you want to answer these five questions great! If you'd rather just share what you are reading, I'm up for that too. If you have a question, feel free to ask it!***

I totally agree about the reason for picking up that book! It's in my tbr for the same reasons. But I have to say, the new covers made me want to read them more! Haha!
