15 Books Worth Reading... Just Once
An unliterary man may be defined as one who reads books once only.
C. S. Lewis
Have you heard that quote before?
Maybe something similar?
I'm a huge fan of rereading books, but let's be honest, there is simply not enough time reread all the books we enjoy!
Plus there are some books that were fun when we read them because of the stage of life or the events that caused us to pick it (friends... vacations...).
And now we have changed, and it won't be as good - and we know it! So why ruin that lovely memory we have?
Needless to say after all that, I had a super easy time coming up with my list for today's Top Ten Tuesday... in fact, I put together a list of 15, and many of them are series... But before you jump down and get mad at my list... please remember I enjoyed these. I even own a bunch of them!
15 Books I Enjoyed, but Won't Read Again
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern -- So I didn't really love this book, but it has stayed with me because there are some amazing quotes... and it will continue to sit on my shelves because of those quotes.
- The Mortal Instruments by Casandra Clare -- I buddy read these books, and having a friend to chat about the characters and plot with made them fun... but otherwise they are full of whiny kids and would be boring otherwise!
- The Young Elites by Marie Lu - I picked up this series because I loved Marie Lu's Legend series and wanted more... but this one flopped in the end for me... I'm glad I read it... but...
- Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell -- This was a recommendation from a book friend, and it was a super fun read... but once was enough.
- Shiver (the whole series) by Maggie Stiefvater --- I went on a serious Maggie Stiefvater binge last year, and this was my favorite series from her, but it was a one-time read kind of story.
- Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch -- Another reading binge I went on, and I flew through these books, but they were the typical dystopian, and once is plenty.
- Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh -- So another buddy read... those really make books fun... I'm not sure this book would live up to the experience of my first read... I'm on the fence about the sequel...
- Three Dark Crowns by Kendre Blake -- this one was confusing.. and then got interesting right at the end... but I'm not sure I'd care enough to try again... I do want to try the sequel though...
- Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins -- As a YA contemporary, this is totally predictable, which makes it fun for the ride, but not worthy of a reread...
- Matched (series) by Allie Condie -- Another example of a dystopian that was the cookie cutter story... fun enough to read... once.
- Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway -- Another YA Contemporary... fun summer read...
- Geekerella by Ashley Poston -- I'd call this a RomCom story... super fun... but well you get it...
- One Paris Summer by Denise Grover Swank - Yep another YA Contemporary...
- The Jewel (The Lone City series) by Amy Ewing -- Alright so this was another dystopian series and it had some serious twists... but those twists made it super heavy, and once was enough.
- Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard -- I loved the first book, but the rest of the series hasn't lived up... I'll finish the last book once it comes out, but then I'm not looking back.
Alright... how mad are some of you???
I'm guessing there are at least a couple on that list that you would read over and over again if you could! And it's alright.
I love that about books and readers - we can huff a bit when someone doesn't love the same book, but deep down we get over it. We understand that different people will love different books.
