Strange & the Secrets of Weep.... WAYRW
Have you ever thought about how strange fairy tales are?
So many of them we have known most of our lives...we learned them as children and therefore accepted the fantasy world easily... it's the plus to childhood right? Children can suspend disbelief purely before cyncism seeps in and we grow up...
And yet, the fantasy genre is growing daily... so are there new fairy tales? Or are authors writing new characters into the same worlds?
I'm going to go out on a limb, and say, if you are looking for some new fairy tales, or at least ones with enough of a twist that might surprise even the most read adult fantasy fans, pick up some Laini Taylor books...
Where This Idea Came From...
The idea is that each week all of us book bloggers can write a post where we talk about the book or books we are reading for the week - and yes if you are still reading the same book for a few weeks in a row that is totally fine. Just be sure to include the answers to the five questions for What are you reading Wednesday in your post. Then hop over to one of the host sites and share your link!Of course, this will be even more fun if you leave the host a comment, and then jump around to another post or two, or five, and gush with them!
We cannot wait to see what you are reading.
What Are You Reading Wednesday - the nitty-gritty
Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover... and then answer these questions for at least one of them.
- Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
- Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
- Will you finish this one?
- Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
- What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.
What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?
The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?
Welcome to Weep
Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
Well the cover is amazing... but mostly I picked this up because some of my booksta besties love this one, and I wanted to know what they are raving over... so I guess content???
Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
Sarai is my favorite... I love her character arc so far... her life has been very jaded, and yet she has seen much of the world where she has never ventured... it makes for a character that is full of information and only needs confidence to step out into the world.
Will you finish this one?
Oh yeah... I'm going to write this post, and then go finish it... I have to know what happens at the end... and then I'll join the fans as we wait for the sequel.
Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
It feels a bit like a Peter Pan story... the idea of the lost boys seems to fit... a little bit. And as always Taylor weaves in tons of mythical legends and religious concepts... and yet it's very unique, which is why I'm just a Laini Taylor fan.
What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
This book is long... but interesting. I'm not sure I would say it's a super quick read... the world building takes some time and gets a bit confusing... but it's too interesting to put aside completely. I have taken short breaks, but never too long...

The idea of new fairy tales always baffles me because it seems impossible... and yet Laini Taylor seems to be onto something... How often do you look for brand new stories? Does the need for your imagination to accept the ride the author takes you on ever baffle you? Can you jump right in?
