Alice as a Skater Girl... What Are You Reading Wednesday
Do you watch Once Upon a Time?
With the complete new direction that started recently for the characters and the show I know quite a few have given up on the show.
But they added Alice, and Wonderland in a glorious twist that makes it fun. Watchers need only realize it's different, and treat it as though it is a new show...
So if you're an Alice fan... maybe give the show a chance this season...
And pick up this series... if you haven't already!
The idea of a modern Alice that fits into the ideas of Carroll, while full of new twists and turns that are perfect will make you want this whole series at once.
Where This Idea Came From...
The idea is that each week all of us book bloggers can write a post where we talk about the book or books we are reading for the week - and yes if you are still reading the same book for a few weeks in a row that is totally fine. Just be sure to include the answers to the five questions for What are you reading Wednesday in your post. Then hop over to one of the host sites and share your link!Of course, this will be even more fun if you leave the host a comment, and then jump around to another post or two, or five, and gush with them!
We cannot wait to see what you are reading.
What Are You Reading Wednesday - the nitty-gritty
Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover... and then answer these questions for at least one of them.
- Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
- Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
- Will you finish this one?
- Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
- What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)

Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.
Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
I have been drawn to these covers for so long... and a new modern take on Alice in Wonderland is super intriguing... so a mix of cover and content I would say.
Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
Alyssa is very interesting for an Alice character. She is not what I expected, but then again, most of the characters in this story are nothing like I would have ever guessed and that is what makes it so interesting.
Will you finish this one?
Of course! The pace ebbs in places, but overall there is enough to keep my turning pages, and curious about what is around the next bend in the plot road.
Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
Maybe a tiny bit of how Cassandra Clare writes... the characters are slowly developing and their development drive the action. Then the action flows and the pace picks up and suddenly I just have to know what happens next.
What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
It's a fun read. The pace is steady for the most part. Like I said there are a few times when it drags while there is setup but that's expected. I am enjoying all the layers of the story that are being built.

I believe this is a trilogy... and I feel that I need to stop picking up trilogies until I finish the ones I've already started, but I can't help it. Trilogies and series fill up the fantasy and YA world anymore.
***Oh and a small note about the link up - please follow the prompts, feel free to change the questions, but the goal is to chat about books you are reading.
