Daily Devotionals without Technology
It is so easy to send a daily devotional to your email isn't it? You just find a group that is writing devotionals you connect with and sign up for their email. Then you can read it on your computer, your phone, your tablet whenever you have the time during the day. I mean you can have your favorite Bible version open in a side window in the process - huge time saver.
And busy moms, we need all the time savers we can get.
And yet, how often do you really open those devotionals and read them through. Then meditate a little on it. Allow the truth to sink in deep?
I admit, I'm not that regular on this. Sure there is a new devotional for me daily, waiting for me to read. But I don't.
I started receiving the devotionals from Proverbs 31 ministries years ago now I think... And I loved them. (Want to sign up? Here's their site.) In fact I thought I might have finally turned a corner, for a few months I honestly made the time to read each daily devotional and then journal about it. I know, I was so proud.... guess it's true, pride goth...
Anyway, it didn't last. Life sped up and suddenly I stopped even opening the emails. Finally I cancelled my subscription, why clutter my inbox?
And then I saw a new book on the shelves - Encouragement for Today.
It was a collection of daily devotionals from the Proverbs 31 Ministries Team!
A real book I could throw in my bag, so that while I'm waiting in the car to pick up my kids I can read a devotional. If I feel like writing in the margins, I can. I can write on a scrape piece of paper and tuck it between the pages. And I can carry those words of encouragement with me.
These devotionals echo the website perfectly: first a scripture verse, second a personal story, third a short prayer, then quick questions for reflection and further verses for meditation. I can make it short and sweet - a three-minute read through - or I can come back and really dive into it. Perfect for busy moms.
The holiday season is the time when life sneaks up and fills in cracks to the point of breakage. So before you get too deep into the holiday rush, go buy yourself a gift. This is a book that can strengthen you as you do life to the fullest - no need for technology at all!
