Live Free: Eliminate the If Onlys and What Ifs of Life
Live Free: Eliminate the If Onlys and What Ifs of Life
By Kendra K. Smiley
During the stress of life it is nice to find a book that is just simply uplifting. A book that reminds of the joys of life, and that we should make it a priority to simply enjoy life. This is one such book.
Smiley introduced the book like this: "This book is filled with true stories of people who have chosen forgiveness, joy, contentment, prayer, and positive attitudes that resulted in renewed hope, increased faith, and purposeful action."
Who wouldn't want that kind of book on her bookshelf?
Just as you would guess, Smiley shares stories of people who have lived a life that might not be considered great, and most certainly not a fairy tale, and yet these people looked to God and have found joy in life.
Some of these stories had me crying, mind you, I read this book in the gym during my morning exercise break. So you can imagine how that went over in such a place. But that is how wrapped up I got into these stories - they truly wrapped themselves around my heart.
And Smiley was great at including wonderful quotes between the stories. Little nuggets of wisdom.
Here are some of my favorite parts from these stories:
- There's a difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is based on happenings. Joy is an inside job. (p 53)
- There was something about the honest truth in this statement that jumped out at me. It's such a simple statement for something that is so impossible for many people to reach - probably because of an important ingredient from the Father.
- God's Word encourages us to be prepared and self-controlled. When we respond rather than react, chances are we are both prepared and self-controlled. (p 110)
- The wisdom behind a self-controlled person is the Lord - such truth!
- Your worse days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace. And your best days are never so good that you're beyond the need of God's grace. (127)
- Another point that you can write everyday as reminder of the bigger picture, and that perspective gives great wisdom.
