Mythical Powers and Body Swapping? WAYRW
Guys, can I just say, I lost track of days and didn't realize it was Wednesday!
Does that happen to anyone else?
Anway...
I have made a focused effort this year to buy fewer books and read the books on my shelves... I even unofficially joined a challenge for it...
And today's focus will be on book two of the Storm Siren trilogy, which I have all three books on my shelf because the fonts on the cover and spine are beautiful... see I told you I often pick books because of their covers.
Where This Idea Came From...
The idea is that each week all of us book bloggers can write a post where we talk about the book or books we are reading for the week - and yes if you are still reading the same book for a few weeks in a row that is totally fine. Just be sure to include the answers to the five questions for What are you reading Wednesday in your post. Then hop over to one of the host sites and share your link!Of course, this will be even more fun if you leave the host a comment, and then jump around to another post or two, or five, and gush with them!
We cannot wait to see what you are reading.
What Are You Reading Wednesday - the nitty-gritty
Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover... and then answer these questions for at least one of them.
- Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
- Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
- Will you finish this one?
- Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
- What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
Marissa's Current Reads
I've had a busy week... so not much has happened in the actual reading department....
- War Storm by Victoria Aveyard
- Someday, Somewhere by Lindsay Champion
- The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
- Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Siren's Fury by Mary Weber
I thrust my hand toward the sky as my voice begs the Elemental inside me to waken and rise. But it’s no use. The curse I’ve spent my entire life abhorring—the thing I trained so hard to control—no longer exists.
Nym risked her life to save Faelen, her homeland, from a losing war, only to discover that the shapeshifter Draewulf has stolen everything she holds dear. But when the repulsive monster robs Nym of her storm-summoning abilities as well, the beautiful Elemental realizes herwar is only just beginning.
Now powerless to control the elements that once emboldened her, Nym stows away on an airship traveling to the metallic kingdom of Bron. She must stop Draewulf. But the horrors he’s brought to life and the secrets of Bron are more than Nym bargained for. Then the disturbing Lord Myles tempts her with new powers that could destroy the monster, and Nym must decide whether she can compromise in the name of good even if it costs her very soul.
As she navigates the stark industrial cityscape of Bron, Nym is faced with an impossible choice: change the future with one slice of a blade…or sacrifice the entire kingdom for the one thing her heart just can’t let go.
Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
As I mentioned before, totally an original cover buy... I love the scrolling fonts... and then the first book, Storm Siren, was interesting and ended with one serious cliffhanger... I mean seriously it's a big one... but then I never got around to this one again... I can't remember why... but anyway, I'm reading it now!
Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
Nym is a very interesting character. She is strong, and yet weak... she desires to fix things, yet is never sure how... And her inner dialogue is often funny, which is nice. There are a ton of characters in this book, I don't remember there being this many in the last book, so it's been hard to really attach to many of the characters... and the main cliffhanger from the first book is keeping me from saying any more about my favorite characters...
Will you finish this one?
Yep! I'm almost done already. And I'm getting the feeling this is going to be another cliffhanger...
Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
A bit like x-men... a lot like A Kiss of Deception and even the Red Queen series. But the writing is less dense, more to the point and quicker to read.
What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
It's super quick. As Nym, the protagonist, is telling us the story, we are limited to what we know, and at times that makes it a bit repetitive and not infomrative... I wish we had more details of what was actually happening... but hopefully that ends up being helpful in the end.

Let's talk about those unfinished book series we all have sitting in on TBRs today!
I have more than I care to think about... partly because I started the series before it was all finished and then forgot about it... and partly because series are big-time commitments... What about you?
