The Phantom and His Plan... WAYRW
Show of hands, who loves musicals?
No?
Yes?
I have a fascination with stage productions and musicals, probably because I loved ballet as a child... and our local theater has this amazing nigh sky ceiling and is designed to feel like an old baroque style interior... so when I had the chance to perform there I was so amazed. Of course the backstage areas were not as amazing as the areas the audience were. But it was still amazing.
So when I had the chance to see The Phantom of the Opera, I was enamored. The mystique, the magic, the sadness, the music... it was all amazing. I have since seen it on stage four different time, and I love every time! Oh and of course the movies...
And yet, I haven't picked up RoseBlood until recently. AG Howard has spun a reimaging of this hauntingly beautiful tale that is making my skin crawl, and keeping my curiosity on full alert...
Where This Idea Came From...
The idea is that each week all of us book bloggers can write a post where we talk about the book or books we are reading for the week - and yes if you are still reading the same book for a few weeks in a row that is totally fine. Just be sure to include the answers to the five questions for What are you reading Wednesday in your post. Then hop over to one of the host sites and share your link!Of course, this will be even more fun if you leave the host a comment, and then jump around to another post or two, or five, and gush with them!
We cannot wait to see what you are reading.
What Are You Reading Wednesday - the nitty-gritty
Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover... and then answer these questions for at least one of them.
- Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
- Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
- Will you finish this one?
- Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
- What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
Marissa's Current Reads

RoseBlood by AG Howard
In this modern day spin on Leroux’s Gothic tale of unrequited love turned to madness, seventeen-year-old Rune Germain has a mysterious affliction linked to her operatic talent, and a horrifying mistake she’s trying to hide. Hoping creative direction will help her, Rune’s mother sends her to a French arts conservatory for her senior year, located in an opera house rumored to have ties to The Phantom of the Opera.
At RoseBlood, Rune secretly befriends the masked Thorn—an elusive violinist who not only guides her musical transformation through dreams that seem more real than reality itself, but somehow knows who she is behind her own masks. As the two discover an otherworldly connection and a soul-deep romance blossoms, Thorn’s dark agenda comes to light and he’s forced to make a deadly choice: lead Rune to her destruction, or face the wrath of the phantom who has haunted the opera house for a century, and is the only father he’s ever known.
Why did you decide to pick up this book - cover or content?
Content... I mean the Phantom! But the cover is totally amazing, as all of her covers are.
Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
Rune is the most established character so far, and I like her. She has some amazing complex issues that allow her to spiral in her thoughts taking us deeper into her personal dilemmas with quick ease.
Will you finish this one?
I am planning on it! I'll admit I'm not in much of a reading mood right now... I'd rather binge-watch some random show, but this story is interesting, so I'll finish it... soon... hopefully
Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of... (other books, movies, TV shows...)
The Phantom of the Opera of course! But it also has some lyrical focus like Wintersong & Shadowsong.
What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,...)
This is a slow build read... the level of creepy is slowly building, sort of like an old horror movie where you feel the tension, and then it drops only to start again... yet we haven't seen anything scary quite yet... but it's there... I can feel it.
