Places to Sneak in Reading for Busy Moms... and all busy people really...
Who gets sucked into all those fancy pictures of amazing reading nooks? Facebook must know I love them because I get a new post from some page or other every day full of fancy, expensive reading nooks and spaces.
And of course those pictures feed my desire for some special little place for me to escape and read.
But let's be honest, we can't usually tuck ourselves away in our favorite reading nook, because life is busy. If we carry a book with us though we can take advantage of places to read!
So today I'm going through places I tend to read, and why I enjoy them!
10 Places I like to Read
- My reading chair: I got an over sized chair for my living room a few years ago just for me. Of course it tends to be where my kids lounge, but technically it's mine... and I would read there all day if I could.
- My back porch: We are blessed with a gorgeous back porch that is screened in while giving me a view of most of our back yard, so I can usually get a few chapters read while my kids play.
- The elliptical at the gym: This one is odd, but the elliptical tends to be my cool down, so instead of watching whatever they have on the TVs I bring my ereader and get through a few chapters in 30 minutes - it's a great way to make the time fly by.
- My car: Parents spend the vast majority of their days in the car... this one is two fold for me, I listen to audio books while I'm driving, & I always have an actual book to read while I'm sitting in the parking lot waiting for pick up times.
- The park: This one does not happen often, but I always try to find a bench to read while I take my kids to the playground - it helps me to not become the helicopter parent that I fear being.
- The passenger seat in the car: Alright so this is the same place as before... but when we go on little getaways I tend to be the passenger, and I can read through most of those rides.
- My daughter's bed: So my youngest doesn't fall asleep well, and we have decided she will fall asleep in her own bed... which means one of us parents tends to have to sit in there until she's asleep... so for about 20 minutes a night I can get in more reading on my ereader as she falls asleep... it's actually not a bad set up!
- The kitchen: Another place were I'm glad to have audio books! I can turn on an audio book while I'm making dinner, or lunch, or even desserts... it's great!
- The Library: So I take my kids every week to the library during the summer - they tend to go on the weekends during the school year which doesn't allow for much time... but I can usually let them get their books and play on the fancy touch screen computers and get in a couple chapters, so that's always great.
- My bed: I'm not actually a big fan of reading in bed... once I finally get to bed, I'm exhausted, but once in a while I can get a few chapters read!

You missed my all time favorite... in the bath tub. Yep! After several soggy book incidents, I now put my Kindle in a freezer weight zip-loc bag. Works great! Lol!

DeleteThese are great! I always have a book in the car for when the baby falls asleep and I'm just sitting in the driveway.
ReplyDeleteI used to do that with my oldest... He always fell asleep in the car, I would just park in the shade and read sometimes to let him sleep longer
DeleteThe only chance I ever get to read these days is in bed. Great suggestions!
