The Shelter of God's Promises: A book review

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

I have been greatly blessed to be part of a small group of women who meet weekly (yes weekly) to study God's word through different books and hold each other accountable to personal goals.  (I promise to write more on this in the future, just not right now)

Last year, we worked our way through Sheila Walsh's The Shelter of God's Promises.  I was excited to start this study because I love Walsh's children's devotionals. So I figured her adult study would be great also.

My expectation was met.

Children's Corner: Look- Alikes Jr.

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

In case you haven't already guessed, I'm not the most creative person in the world.  I just can't come up with things on my own, which is why I'm so into reading about other's great creativity!  My kids however are full of imagination and want to create all the time.  This probably explains my semi-addiction to pinterest... but I digress...

Children are made readers on the laps of their parents   {Reading List}

As a result of my desire to keep my boys' imaginations growing, I was thrilled when we came across this super neat book at the library recently.  Now, this might not be the go to book for learning to read, but as far as really learn to observe and then create, this book is amazing.

Look-Alikes Jr. The more you look, the more you see! is full of fun imagery on every single page.

Powerful Life Plan: A book review {Giveaway}

Monday, January 27, 2014

There is no question in my mind that many, many moms feel like their lives sometimes get away from them.  With all the dishes, chores and child-rearing going on, it is easy to reminisce over the dreams you had before motherhood of the life you would be living.

I personally find myself spending some days wondering when I got so busy doing the same things every day!  And then I feel like I'm not really accomplishing much because I'm not doing what I thought I would be doing by this stage in my life. Now don't read this the wrong way, I believe motherhood is a job in of itself, and doing all those daily things is part of the process and should be seen as an accomplishment.  What I'm talking about here, are the other dreams we had before motherhood, that we shelf as we learn the job of being mom.

What if there were three simple steps to follow in order to be the mom you want, living the life you dream of?  Would you give it a shot?

Walking By Faith - A Book Review

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Last year I signed up for a large group Bible study in an effort to get my kids out of the house on a regular basis in preparation for preschool.  You see, while I was in my Bible study, by kiddos where in a short "preschool" like class with kids their own ages, where they learned a Bible story, did a craft, went to the church library, sang worship songs and got to play in a large gym.

Little did I know that the study I signed up for would be such a great study!  You see, I found myself in a group of moms studying Walking by Faith: Lessons Learned in the Dark by Jennifer Rothschild.  And let me tell you, if you want a short study that will open your eyes this is it.

Children's Corner: Hello, Stars!

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

This is one for all those mama's who's little one is full of why questions and a need for immediate answers.  Are you in that phase of mommy-hood?  I sure am!

My boys are getting very good at asking questions about things I simply do not have answers for!  And when there is no obvious answer either they make one up (when they are in good moods) or get upset...  Most of their interest right now is focused on stars, the moon and space.  I'm sure you can guess just how much knowledge I have one these topics, and of course their questions are not simple...

So what do I do?  Well I search for a book to start the ball rolling, and today I'm sharing one such book I found...

Wife after God: A book review

Monday, January 20, 2014

I have heard it said that all marriages are moving in one of two directions - either they are spiraling upward or they are spiraling downward.  Marriage doesn't really just stand stagnant. As I would not really consider myself an expert on marriage, I cannot say for sure if this is true, but when I look at the marriages around me, including my own, I would agree that concept.  Either we make a conscious effort to work our marriages, or we start to feel the pressures that can make a marriage crumble.

When I saw that Jennifer from Unveiled Wife was putting out a devotional, I knew I wanted to review.  Partly because the devotional was coming out right at the beginning of the year, a time when I tend to over do it with devotionals, but also because I enjoy reading Jennifer's blog posts.  Luckily I was able to receive a copy for review, and overall I think this is a great devotional for all wives to read and follow.

Anything: Book Review

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Most days I realize I seriously don't know anything.  The day just takes over and try my best simply to keep up.  Other days I am ready for bed before I'm done cleaning up from breakfast!   This crazy life has made me realize that on most days I'm chasing something that I can't even name, and that is simply not alright when I think about.

So when the opportunity to read Anything by Jennie Allen as a study came around I figured it would be a good chance to name that something that I'm chasing daily.

Children's Corner: Bedtime Bugs

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Let's be honest, getting the average little boy (from about the time they can crawl and on) to sit still for very long and pay attention to a book can be a challenge.  It's just a fact that most little boys want to move, and do stuff, and most books just don't follow that, right?

Not that I think it's my job as mom to make my boys learn to sit still for hours on end, but I do feel I need to help them realize that there are times when sitting still is important.  And listening to books or reading, is one of those times when sitting still is essential. So where does one start with this task?

I go for books that encourage some interaction!

Children's Corner: Pete the Cat

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

There are so many wonderful children's books out there, aren't there?  Then again, there are some read duds.  So, I'm going to continue my (hopefully) weekly reviews of Children's books here in 2014!

My boys love books, and I am so happy about that.  So my goal is that on Tuesdays I'll have a short review of a book we are currently enjoying.  That being said my boys are young, four and two, which will impact which books tend to show up here.  That's not to say that there won't be some books on the Tuesday's Children's Corner that fit into different age groups, as I am doing some books reviews on Children's Literature.

And like always, I love to hear what you are reading to your kids so leave me a note any time and I'll check it out. Or if you are interested in writing a guest post on a book or author your kids are in love with, send me an email and we can work something out.
