Powerful Life Plan: A book review {Giveaway}

Monday, January 27, 2014

There is no question in my mind that many, many moms feel like their lives sometimes get away from them.  With all the dishes, chores and child-rearing going on, it is easy to reminisce over the dreams you had before motherhood of the life you would be living.

I personally find myself spending some days wondering when I got so busy doing the same things every day!  And then I feel like I'm not really accomplishing much because I'm not doing what I thought I would be doing by this stage in my life. Now don't read this the wrong way, I believe motherhood is a job in of itself, and doing all those daily things is part of the process and should be seen as an accomplishment.  What I'm talking about here, are the other dreams we had before motherhood, that we shelf as we learn the job of being mom.

What if there were three simple steps to follow in order to be the mom you want, living the life you dream of?  Would you give it a shot?

Well that is exactly my opinion on why I even agreed to pick up Connie Sokol's book Create a Powerful Life Plan!  I just wanted to see if this method would provide a way for me to organize my life in a way that allowed me to be the mom I dream of being while taking the necessary steps to build the life I dream of.

And to be honest, this book does just that.  There are just a few simple steps that Connie goes over that will force you evaluate your life, your dreams and desires and then she helps you put together a plan to step your way to the life you want.  Now we you read simple, don't read quick and magical.  These steps will take some time and you will have to work them.  But it is manageable.

The key?

Well as Connie says right in the introduction:  "you must be ripe" meaning you must really really want this in order to follow through.
"Discipline helps you stay focused, and this focus then enables you not only to be more productive, but also to bring forth previously untapped ideas and understanding."
So if you are ready to be disciplined and are ripe for serious change, I say go for it!

Powerful Life Plan : A book review   {Reading List}

Personal likes:

What I personally liked about this book was how many resources Connie includes - guidelines for journalling and online resources - to help you really work your way through the steps.  She doesn't give you a deadline for achieving your dream life either.  She makes it very clear that it is better to set up a weekly goal, and then slowly work your way through each process.

Personal dislikes:

There were a couple of little things that kept me from loving every part of this book.  One the editing felt rushed, as there were many grammar issues and general ease of reading issues (if you've been following me, you know this is a personal pet peeve).  And then the final chapter just didn't sit well with me. Connie Sokol shamelessly plugs her 8-week online program that you have pay more for - the main issue is that she spent a whole chapter on this, not just a few sentences. It made me feel dumb. When I enjoy a product from someone, I tend to find more resources by that person on my own.  I probably would have spent some time researching, possibly trying this program, until she spent a whole chapter trying to sell me on it!

Reading List Rating:

I couldn't give this book a higher rating simply because of that last chapter, which is a shame, because before that I really enjoyed Connie's cheerleading and chatty voice and could see myself working through these steps when I am truly "ripe".  So maybe if you just didn't read that last chapter you'd love every single part!
