Sunshine break - Reading List

Sunshine break

Monday, February 04, 2013

It never fails that around this time during winter I feel that the sun will never really come back - sure I get little glimpses of it now and then. In fact when I try real hard I notice it more, but as winter continues the energy to put in that effort to look for the sun starts to wane. So with all this in mind I figured it would be a great day to add a little sunshine to the day!

Last month, Cathy from Thoughts on Books, graciously nominated my blog for the Sunshine award. And I figured in the midst of my winter doldrums I'd accept the award and share some Sunshine with others!

So here are the rules:
1. Answer the 8 questions the person who awarded you asked

2. Nominate 8 new people and notify them on their blog

3. Ask 8 new questions (or reuse the ones you were asked) for your nominees to answer

Cathy asked these questions:

1. What is your favorite genre to read?
I find this one of the hardest questions to answer, because it truly depends on my mood and my life at the time. For me, the quality of the book is more important than anything else - I need my books to be well written, from an author who has truly poured herself into the book. If it's fiction I expect to be pulled into a new world, rooting for the characters, and sad to leave when it's over. If it's non-fiction, I want to feel something from the author and really gain a new insight, or expand on knowledge I have.

2. What fictional place would you most like to live?

Another hard one - I've always loved the Anne of Green Gables series, but technically it is set in a real place... So I guess I'd have to go with Narnia - C.S. Lewis put together such a wonderful world with Narnia, and I haven't even been crushed by Disney's portrayal of it...

3. What is another pastime you enjoy besides reading?

Probably, right now, photography. As it is allowing me to capture moments in my kids lives and forcing me to remember them. But I don't really have a ton of time for it right now, although I'm hopeful that will change here soon...

4. What time period would you most like to live during?

Honestly, I'm happy with this time period... Sure there are times when being whisked away to Victorian England fascinates me... or any period where women wore gorgeous gowns every day... But seriously, there are so many wonderful aspects to right now, that I'm glad to be living here. Besides, the joy of loving to read is I can always take a trip to another era any time I want.

5. What books are you most looking forward to in 2013?

Oh man, my list could go on and on... guess you'll just have to keep coming back to see that one

6. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?

Another tough one, because I have a hard time going places, even for visits... But I would enjoy a trip to Italy (as my family is from Rome) and the Greek Islands (as they are so gorgeous).

7. What TV shows do you wish were still on air?

I miss Gilmore Girls - in fact my husband is probably laughing when he reads this because I still play Gilmore Girls every chance I get!  I also enjoyed Friends, it always brought a laugh, which is good. And to be honest, I miss 7th Heaven - although I've only thought about it recently as I've started to really screen what my oldest is allowed to watch, and am depressed by the messages being given in so many "family" TV shows.

8. What is more addictive: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Goodreads?

A tough one - I spend a good amount of time between Facebook and Pinterest - but I truly love Goodreads to see what others are reading, and their thoughts on what they've read - I know you're shocked!

If you'd like to follow me in any of these crazy addictive media outlets, here are my links!

Here's my list of blogs that I enjoy because they bring a little sunshine to my day:

Keri from Growing in His Glory - which just happens to be my feature blog this month - Keri also loves books, and writes about being a mom, which speaks to me daily!

The Ladies from Ladies Holiday - I've greatly enjoyed following along with their musings every week for quite a while. They are just a fun little corner to visit.

Faith at The Life of Faith, is a new favorite of mine - I enjoy linking up with the Mommy Moments hop each week. Plus Faith just has a sense of humor that shows up wonderfully in her writing.

Naomi from What Joy is Mine, is also a wonderful writer. She shares wonderful insight and wisdom regularly, and I feel encouraged often after reading her musings.

Ashley from This Southern Girl's Heart is a great friend of mine in the blogging world. I have loved sharing stories from motherhood with her as we learn to be daughters of Christ and mommies to little hearts.

Here are my questions for these great bloggers:
1. What do you do in the winter to bring sunshine to your house?
2. What is your favorite vacation spot to go with your family?
3. What book do wish everyone would read? Why?
4. What is your biggest hope for your future?
5. If you could do anything today, what would you do - don't worry about your responsibilities  they would all be well taken care of...
6. If a movie was made about your life up to now, who would you want to play you?
7. What movie do you watch when you are sick in bed?
8. What is your favorite dinner to make for your family?

Oh and if you decided to accept the award, please let me know, so I can see your answers!

And here are my last three bits of sunshine in the blogging world, but their corners are large...  Courtney from Women Living Well, Sarah Mae from, Ann from A Holy Experience... I realize these are major blogs, but seriously they bring sunshine to my day, so if you need a little extra sun today, give one of them a shot!

I hope this brought a little smile to your day... If you want to answer any of the above questions, please leave your answer in the comments, I'd love to know more about you.
