Reading Break
I am always up for a party! So when I came across The Ultimate Blog Party I figured I'd take a break from reading and writing about it (a second break as my last post was on a movie) and join in the fun.
My name is Marissa, and I love to read - I know you are shocked by that. Also I am a sinner who is eternally grateful for God's Grace.

This blog is a melting together of those two aspects of my life - God and a love of reading.
As a mother of two young boys I don't get a lot of time to read, and even less time to discuss the books I do read. However, as an English major, I can't give up reading, or a desire to talk about what I read, so I'm hoping you like to read and will join in my discussions. Maybe even give me some suggestions on great books?
Anyway, the point of this blog is simply to be a place for me to share my feelings on books I read (all the books on this blog I read because I want to, not because I have to).

Many of the books I read are from Christian authors, but not all.
Some are focused on teenage girls as I mentor High School girls through my church, and am always looking for great reading material for myself and them. (Great book for teenage girls)
As a mother to two young boys, I am on the lookout for books that might motivate me, and keep striving to be the best mommy I can be for them.Or books that I think I should be aware of so that I can discuss life topics and events with my boys as they (hopefully) grow into book lovers also. (In preparation of future discussions)
As a wife I read books that will keep my marriage strong. (Great marriage book)
As as an avid reader, who enjoys escaping reality once in awhile, I read fiction that does just that, paints a picture that I can escape to in the few moments of quiet time I can steal for me. (Chick-Lit)
I would love for you to add my blog to your list of blogs to follow- sign up to receive my posts through email below - add my button to your own blog - comment below and I'll stop by your blog!
Can't wait for the discussions to begin.

Hi Marissa. I love blogs that review books because I don't read a lot and I want to read things that I know I'll enjoy. And I like that you read Christian and secular books because it's always great to get a Christian perspective of a secular book.
ReplyDeleteI found you on UBP, and I'm a new follower. If you'd like to check out my site--it's 1-minute devotions and my UBP intro page is here: http://biblelovenotes.blogspot.com/p/ultimate-blog-party.html

I love reading. I have 5 kids, so I have to try very hard to MAKE the time in my schedule for reading. Thanks for sharing your blog! I'm stopping by from the blog party.
ReplyDeleteCarrie - Thank you for stopping by. Finding the time to read with 2 kids seems like a serious chore, I can only imagine how you find time! Thanks for stopping by, hope to 'see' you again
DeleteI'm a book-a-holic, too! :)
ReplyDeleteThe UBP is a highlight of my blogging year, and I'm so glad that you've linked up this year!! I look forward to getting to know you better in the months to come.

Ashley - I'm really enjoying the UBP also, it's fun to find people who you could become 'friends' with in the blogosphere!
DeleteHi Marissa! Nice to meet you! Love reading and books...I read both Christian and some not...I read The Hunger Games because my daughter insisted. I really thought that they were well done. I love reading and writing so hope to see you! Drop by Beneath The Surface: Breath of Faith. In His GRaec, Dawn
ReplyDeleteDawn - I'll drop by for sure! Yes, The Hunger Games were well done for a YA lit and especially since the movie deal was in the works before the series was done. Still think that maybe the last one was rushed a bit, but that's just me. Look forward to getting to 'know' you.
DeleteWith 4 kids ages 6, 4, 3, 4weeks life can get a bit hectic. But when I do manage to find a book that can steal away moments of my day, I find great peace and solace there. It's amazing what words can do to a person. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm always up for recommendations....
I love comments!!
Let me know what you thought of this one... don't forget to share your blog link so I can stop by!
