Updrift by Errin Stevens a Sneak Peek on Reading List

Goodreads Summary:

For Kate Sweeting, love isn’t in the air. It’s in the water.

Since her father died, Kate Sweeting’s home life has been in the pits, her well-being on life support. Her future looks desolate until she and her mother, Cara, make another plan: abandon their shriveled existence for more promising prospects on the coast, where Cara can play small-town librarian-bachelorette and Kate can figure out what’s up with that secretive Blake family from the beach.

Everyone is eerily captivated with Kate and her mother, and Cara is the first to figure out why when the man of her dreams arrives all dripping and devoted and closed-mouthed about what he intends. Kate is willing to go along with their subterfuge for a while, but eventually makes a charge for the water to learn what her mother is hiding. Gabe Blake is there waiting for her…and so is someone considerably less friendly. By the time Kate navigates her way home, everything will have changed for her—what she feels, what she wants, and what she’ll risk to be with the man she loves.

Sneak Peek:

"Maya reported via texts she was up to her eyeballs in sporting activities that summer, attending multiple camps in succession; and Gabe was curiously busy as well, although he wouldn't specify with what. Kate found herself with more time on her hands than usual but she focused on writing and her hobbies rather than seek out other friends."  p 35

Initial Thoughts

I wanted to love this book, I mean The Little Mermaid!  Is there a better fairy tale? Okay, maybe there is, but this has to be at the top.   I appreciate how far away from the Disney version this book is... but something about the writing and me just didn't mix... and I forced myself through the book because Stevens is such a great person.... but for fans of mermaids...

Here are some rules if you decide to join in:

Sneak Peek Saturday on Reading List a glimpse into what I am reading currently

• Pick up whatever book you are reading (non-fiction, fiction, children's... really the sky is the limit)
• Open to any page you have already read
• Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page - make it interesting without flipping to a ton of different pages.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away -- You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so we can all add your book to our To-Be-Read lists!

You can leave your teaser, author, and title in the comments (click over to the web version if you're on the mobile site). Or write up your own post and join us weekly!  Then you can share your link in the comments, and I will stop over and leave you a comment!!!  YAY!

  1. Sounds interesting, what you're offering. But I wonder, would that be for book reviews only or for those struggling with getting regular content?

    1. The beauty is that this works for everyone who reads... not just book bloggers - I've seen Magazines used, text books, Bible studies.... and so on. So it's open to everyone

  2. How fun! I'm kind of in between books right now though. :( I need to find a new one!

    1. You know I have plenty of recommendations ;)

    1. Hi Scott - maybe you haven't spent much time on my site - but these are quick glimpses for people looking for a new read. I don't put up my opinion on books until I have finished them. But I do put up full reviews on here, and on Goodreads. I find it fairly insulting that you have the guts to decide if my blog is successful or not after only looking at two or three posts. I hope you find the time to actually get to know what my reviews are like in the future.

I love comments!!
