Lessons in June

Friday, June 28, 2013

So a while back I read a great book and was so in love with it I had to start reading and following the author's blog. I mean if a book is so great, it would follow that I would enjoy her thoughts on a regular basis. And I am loving the tidbits of life that Emily shares on Chatting at the Sky

When she suggested doing a fun post to share what we each learned in the month of June I was on board. So I spent most of the month trying to learn something... and often I learned that I know very little!  But isn't that just the truth for us all...

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my efforts to learn a little bit this month... and maybe even you'll check out Emily's ramblings at Chatting at the Sky...

Busy Toddler, Happy Mom...

By Gayle Jervis & Kristen Jervis Cacka

Do you often wish you had more ideas on how to keep your child stimulated at home?
Do you find yourself signing up for expensive toddler programs since they give you the confidence that you have provided all that your toddler needs for his developmental growth?
Do you wish that your toddler could be more fully engaged in his play so that you have time to do the laundry?
Have you purchased activity books to give you more ideas on how to entertain your toddler to discover that they are more appropriate for groups of toddlers at a daycare or for a specialized program? (Busy Toddler, Happy Mom)

Discipline: Thoughts for further study

Monday, June 24, 2013

It has taken me years, yes years, to reach this place where I can say with confidence that my role as a Christian has to include some disciplined action on a daily basis in order to stay obedient to my God. (This is not the same as saying that my salvation is dependent on my actions, as mentioned in the introductory post to this series.) All this to say, that even though I've only spent time on two spiritual disciplines there are more. But when you come to the decision that you need to discipline yourself it is best to start with one commitment at a time and to not overwhelm yourself. Once you have become disciplined in one behavior then you move on to the next one, adding to your Christian skills so to speak...
